Koolivoo History

Koolivoo originally traded as Golden Egg Communications Pty Ltd, which was established in 1998 and provided publicity services to the tourism industry.

A shift in 1999 to concentrate on full marketing services including UK / Ireland market development for ATS Pacific and progression of a marketing platform for Tropic Towers Cairns. It was also in this year that the developers of a residential complex contracted Golden Egg Communications to evolve their vision for a full 4.5 Star resort.

Over five years The Lakes Cairns Resort and Spa was transformed from an old cane field to an awarding winning 385 apartment property, clearly ranked in the top 3 in Cairns by the independent Trip Advisor.

Golden Egg Communications established, managed and marketed the resort, with staff growing from 1 on opening day to over 120 presently, room nights sold over 80,000 per year and revenues reaching $12.5M. Importantly investor's returns were significantly above market ranging from 6 - 10%.

In 2003 Golden Egg Communications identified a gap in the Cairns product range attracting a new breed of over 50s, whose travel values where not being met, which resulted in the strategic alliance with Downunder Tours.

Koolivoo was launched in 2005 as the new trading name of Golden Egg Communications Pty Ltd and the alliance with ATS Pacific to grow the luxury markets.


About Matt McKinley - Koolivoo Managing Director

Matt McKinley

Born in Sydney, Matt completed a Bachelor of Arts in Leisure Studies from University of Technology Sydney in 1987. In 1988 Matt joined Newmans Tours Australia as Sales Executive NSW and in 1990 Matt was transferred to the United Kingdom as the first Sales Manager UK / Ireland for Newmans Australia and New Zealand.

On returning to Australia in late 1992 Matt was offered a position in Cairns by ATS Pacific to manage interests in the region and develop new business streams for the group. In 1998 Golden Egg Communications Pty Ltd was established by Matt as a vehicle of offering a range of tools to assist the industry grow their market revenues.

Through Matt's variety of roles over the years a thorough understanding of coach touring, international wholesaling, inbound tour operations, resort development, management and marketing, publicity and strategy has evolved with great benefit for future market and product growth. With over 45 international sales missions to UK, USA, Europe, Eastern Europe, Asia, Japan and New Zealand, Matt's relationships with the best tour operators in these markets is long standing and solid.

Matt has been recognised by the industry and has held leadership roles including:

  • Director - Tourism Tropical North Queensland 2003-2005
  • Chairman - North Queensland Chapter ITOA (now ATEC) 1995-2000.

Living in Cairns, Matt and his wife Alisa have five children, Zoe, Xavier, Bridgette, Charlie and Max. In his spare time Matt enjoys trekking the rainforest covered hills of Cairns and keeps fit through regular Mountain Biking training and the odd competition.


About Glenn Fawcett - Director of Sales & Marketing

Glenn Fawcett

Glenn Fawcett holds a Certificate V in Business Marketing which he completed during his 4.5 years in the sales & marketing team at The Lakes Cairns Resort & Spa. Whilst mainly focused on sales, Glenn also supported reservations, front office and the food & beverage departments during the development of the resort which grew from 35 to 380 resort apartments, and is now one of the leading 4 ½ resorts in Tropical North Queensland.

Glenn's responsibilities at Koolivoo will be to further develop business relationships with new international partners via white labeling activities and our Firefeed Technology's.
